Whenever a player from Sporting Lisbon is linked with Manchester United, tales of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo erupt in the Transfer Tavern.

That’s no different this evening following reports in [the Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7094526/Manchester-United-handed-major-boost-in-their-bid-to-land-Portuguese-hotshot-Joao-Mario.html) that the Red Devils have been handed a boost in their bid to land Portuguese winger Joao Mario.

The winger is [thought](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7094526/Manchester-United-handed-major-boost-in-their-bid-to-land-Portuguese-hotshot-Joao-Mario.html) to have come across the club’s radar only recently after a breakthrough in the Portuguese capital and has been the subject of a scouting mission.

Scoring six goals and recording a further 10 assists have reportedly attract the glances of decision makers at Old Trafford.

Now, the 23-year old has revealed he is open to the prospect of a move to England.

‘The league I like the most and I’ve always liked the most in the English league’, [stated](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/7094526/Manchester-United-handed-major-boost-in-their-bid-to-land-Portuguese-hotshot-Joao-Mario.html) the Portugal international.

‘It’s the league I like the most but that doesn’t mean I think about that one alone.’

**Is a winger really what United need? Do they have deeper problems?**
