# Chelsea: Blues make contact to sign Yunus Musah

**[Chelsea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/) have made a pre-January move for USA international Yunus Musah in the form of contact with his representatives, according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Potter set for backing…

American business tycoon Todd Boehly, after his takeover of the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) giants, has already backed his new club to the hilt and displayed real ambition in the transfer market.

[£241 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-chelsea/transfers/verein/631) was spent in the summer window, yet after the sacking of former boss Thomas Tuchel, it appears current manager Graham Potter may now be handed a seismic transfer kitty of his own.

Indeed, [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/chelsea-fc-news/chelsea-pole-position-josko-gvardiol-transfer-race/) have even suggested that the Blues are currently in pole position to sign RB Leipzig ace Josko Gvardiol and [they’re also in the race](https://www.football365.com/news/chelsea-lead-race-bellingham-liverpool-boehly-rules-out-real-madrid) for Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham.

### The Latest: Chelsea make Musah contact…

As per[90min,](https://www.90min.com/posts/premier-league-giants-express-interest-yunus-musah) Potter’s side have now made contact with the entourage of Valencia star Musah after his impressive World Cup campaign for the USA.

There is apparently growing interest in the 20-year-old as Chelsea make a pre-January approach – alongside Liverpool.

Arsenal have also been tracking his development for quite some time but it appears Chelsea are now well and truly in the mix for Musah’s signature.

### The Verdict: Exciting talent…

The midfielder’s current deal runs until 2026 and contains a seismic [€100 million release clause (£86m)](https://www.90min.com/posts/premier-league-giants-express-interest-yunus-musah), yet it remains to be seen if Boehly will have to pay such a huge amount.

Musah, though, is emerging as a very exciting talent and has been a crucial asset to his national team – especially during their impressive 2022 World Cup run to the Last 16.

ESPN commentator Eugênio Leal has certainly been impressed, calling Musah one of USA’s ‘[sensational’](https://twitter.com/eugenioleal/status/1597677381992566786) midfield trio in Qatar.
