# Tottenham: Antonio Conte ‘fixed’ on Alessandro Bastoni

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) manager Antonio Conte is personally ‘fixed’ on signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to reports from Italy.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing new defender?

The Lilywhites have had a real problem at the back recently, conceding [11 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/spielplan/verein/148) in their last five [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) games and more than anyone else [in the top eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/tabelle/wettbewerb/GB1/saison_id/2022) throughout the season so far.

Conte will not be happy with that defensive record and it certainly is not a good portent if they wish to seal Champions League qualification for a second successive season. As such, reports have suggested that the north Londoners could look to solve this problem by bringing in a world-class central defensive option.

Villarreal star Pau Torres has been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-pau-torres-transfer-update/) with a move to N17 recently, while it is well known that Tottenham’s sporting director Fabio Paratici [targeted](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/spurs-news-inter-milan-bastoni-the-athletic-thfc/) Bastoni in the summer.

### The Latest: Conte ‘fixed’ on signing Bastoni…

A fresh report from Italy has provided the latest on Spurs and their chances of signing the latter.

The Italy centre-back, who is rumoured to likely cost around [€55m](https://www.interlive.it/2022/11/17/calciomercato-inter-bastoni-rinnovo-tottenham-conte-classifica/) (£48m), is a serious target for Conte, who apparently has Bastoni ‘fixed’ in his mind.

This information comes from [Inter Live](https://www.interlive.it/2022/11/17/calciomercato-inter-bastoni-rinnovo-tottenham-conte-classifica/), who add that the 23-year-old is ‘more than an idea’ at Tottenham and that he is ‘urgently needed’ at the club.

### The Verdict: Difficult…

Bastoni’s signing would perhaps be the most difficult to pull off mid-season, given that he apparently [wants to remain](https://www.interlive.it/2022/11/17/calciomercato-inter-bastoni-rinnovo-tottenham-conte-classifica/) at the San Siro.

However, if Spurs were to pull off this unlikely transfer coup, there is little dispute that he would strengthen their defensive options to no end.

Called a defensive ‘[genius’](https://www.givemesport.com/1826256-tottenham-transfer-news-conte-eyes-reunion-with-so-intelligent-54m-defensive-genius) by Italian football expert Conor Clancy, the centre-back’s young age also indicates that he could improve even further, especially under a [serial winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-conte/erfolge/trainer/3517) like Conte.
