# Tottenham: Spurs ‘working’ on Marcus Thuram move

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) are ‘working’ to sign France forward and [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/)-bound star Marcus Thuram, according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Paratici’s transfer plans…

Despite [heavy spending](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148) in the summer transfer window, the north London club could further back Antonio Conte with major signings mid-season.

In Tottenham’s quest for a second successive [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) top-four finish, sporting director Fabio Paratici firmly has the likes of [Ruslan Malinovskyi](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-atalanta-ruslan-malinovskyi-update-thfc/) in his mind as Spurs plot to strengthen key positions.

Thuram, who has also been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-marcus-thuram-transfer-update/) with a move to north London recently, may now leave current club Borussia Monchengladbach in January for a bargain price.

### The Latest: Tottenham ‘working’ on Thuram move…

Reports from Italy claim that the Bundesliga side would like to bring in a fee of around [€10m (£8.7m)](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-working-operation-sign-forward-ditto-arsenal-transfer-derby-underway-player/) for their key player as they green-light a cut-price sale.

This comes after Gladbach had originally demanded around [€40m (£35m)](https://sempreinter.com/2021/08/19/gladbach-slap-e40m-price-tag-on-inter-target-marcus-thuram-italian-media-report/) for Thuram last year, but the player’s contract situation, with his current deal expiring in [2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-thuram/profil/spieler/318528), has forced their hand.

Information courtesy of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-working-operation-sign-forward-ditto-arsenal-transfer-derby-underway-player/)) has now claimed Spurs are ‘working’ to sign the 25-year-old as a result. However, they will face serious competition from cross-town rivals Arsenal, along with European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan and Marseille.

### The Verdict: Get it done…

Signing a player of Thuram’s ilk for £8.7m is quite simply an unmissable opportunity for Tottenham.

Dubbed a ‘world class’ striker of the ‘highest international class’ by Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer (via [GFNG](https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2022/marcus-thuram-a-world-class-striker-after-recovering-from-serious-injury-last-year/)), he has stood out as Gladbach’s main man this season.

As per [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/134/Show/Germany-Borussia-M-Gladbach), he is the Foals’ best-performing player by average match rating, chipping in with 10 goals and three assists in the Bundesliga.

Paying a fee below £10m for a proven attacker who has also made [France’s squad](https://www.fff.fr/article/8509-marcus-thuram-convoque.html) for the World Cup would be a bargain of the highest order.
