# Tottenham: Son Heung-min carrying a ‘problem’

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) star Son Heung-min has been ‘carrying a problem’ recently, with club staff taking action with his training.**

### The Lowdown: Son misfiring for Spurs…

The 30-year-old has been [criticised](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-son-heung-min-b1030384.html) for some of his performances this season, having been unable to maintain his sensational form of the last two [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) campaigns. He has just five top-flight goals this term, compared to 40 in the past two seasons combined ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/91909/History/Son-Heung-Min)).

Son has been a [potent player](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/91909/History/Son-Heung-Min) at Spurs for many years, with manager [Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/) also [praising](https://football-italia.net/conte-praises-son-if-i-have-to-find-a-husband-for-my-daughter-video/#:~:text=Antonio%20Conte%20praises%20Tottenham%20winger,be%20a%20person%20like%20him.) the South Korean’s character openly to the press.

A slump in form for such a world-class player couldn’t have come at a worse time given Tottenham’s desire to qualify for a second successive Champions League campaign, with journalist Alasdair Gold sharing some news on Son.

### The Latest: Son carrying a ‘problem’…

Writing for [football.london,](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-emerson-daniel-levy-rise-26337932#:~:text=Son%20has%20also%20been%20carrying%20a%20problem%20in%20recent%20weeks%20that%20requires%20the%20odd%20session%20away%20from%20the%20group%20at%20Hotspur%20Way.) the reliable reporter claims that the former Bayer Leverkusen star has been ‘carrying a problem’ in recent weeks, with Spurs staff taking action on the matter.

It is believed that the winger has sometimes been training away from the squad, with his issue requiring the ‘odd session’ away from team training.

Gold also [claimed](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-emerson-daniel-levy-rise-26337932#:~:text=Both%20men%20could%20play%20together%20in%20midweek) that Son and Richarlison could play together this week as Tottenham gear up to take on Sheffield United in the FA Cup tomorrow night.

### The Verdict: Phenomenal player…

Perhaps Son’s problem could be one of the reasons why Cristian Stellini has called upon him from the bench rather than handing him a start [recently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/heung-min-son/leistungsdaten/spieler/91845), potentially protecting the player’s fitness.

Whatever the reason, Tottenham supporters will be hoping that the 30-year-old can truly start to rediscover his very best form, which saw him share the [2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot](https://www.premierleague.com/news/2626553) with Mohamed Salah.

Son also stood out as Spurs’ best-performing player by average [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Archive/England-Tottenham) match rating in that campaign, even above star striker Harry Kane, with Conte calling him a ‘[very special](https://www.londonworld.com/sport/football/spurs/antonio-conte-reveals-dressing-room-message-to-special-son-heung-mint-3704330)‘ asset.

There is no questioning the player’s class, which he has demonstrated over seven-and-a-half years at Tottenham by scoring [140](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/heung-min-son/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/91845) times, and we believe that his current slump in form is very much temporary.
