The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a rebuild at the club this summer. At the moment, there are a number of players in the squad that, simply put, haven’t been good enough.
Naturally, Roman Abramovich is likely to turn to the transfer market as he looks to turn his team around, but our landlord thinks that he would be wiser to look closer to home. After all, Chelsea’s near-40 strong loan army is full of talent.
One player that has looked particularly good this season is Marco van Ginkel. He’s been out in the cold at Stamford Bridge for some time now after suffering an injury during the early days of his Chelsea tenure, but he’s returned to form with PSV this season.
Nonetheless, Chelsea are, according to Football.London, ready to sell him for just £10 million – and it’s tough to see a way in which that deal makes sense. To the contrary, the Dutchman could genuinely have a role in the first team if the Blues give him a chance.
After all, he has been simply sensational at PSV this season. Arguably their most important player, the Dutchman is currently their captain, which is a testament to how highly he is rated there. The Eredivisie league leaders have impressed this season, and van Ginkel has been at the heart of a lot of it.
A technically gifted midfielder, he’s able to control games with his great range of passing, whilst he’s no slouch on the ball either. Tall, powerful and robust, he’d be right at home in England. Not to mention, his 14 league goal isn’t bad at all for a midfielder.
When you consider how much Chelsea’s midfield has struggled this season, it doesn’t make sense to let a player like him leave – especially without giving him a proper chance in England – especially for a price as low as that.
At the very least, Chelsea must give him a chance to impress this summer before making a final decision – as van Ginkel has done everything right.
