A fee has been agreed between Real Madrid and Chelsea for Ricardo Carvalho, with the defender set to join the Spanish Giants for £6.7million.
The Portuguese international is set to join up up with former boss Jose Mourinho, the man who brought him to Stamford Bridge.
The 32-year-old has won three Premier League titles since joining Chelsea, and formed a formidable partnership with John Terry at centre back. The club released a statement confirming the player’s exit:
“The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.
“Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career.”
Having won all three of the English competitions, Carvalho has already stated his desire to help Real Madrid win the Champions League, which he won with Mourinho at Porto. Carvalho told a Spanish newspaper last month:
“With Mourinho I experienced two marvellous stages at Porto and Chelsea.
To have the opportunity to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be tremendous.”
With Carvalho on his way out, Chelsea looking increasingly likely to aqcuire the services of Benfica’s 23-year-old David Luiz for an estimated £10million.
