It has been a decent season so far for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern. Despite falling off the wagon somewhat in recent weeks, owing to a loss to Chelsea, the Red Devils remain in a good position in the Premier League – with Jose Mourinho’s men still on course for a strong title challenge.
Seemingly, though, the Red Devils are already looking ahead to next season, with news of a new contract for one of their most important players filtering in from the Mirror. According to the Mirror, Ashley Young is set to stay at Man Utd for a further year after the Red Devils took up an option within his contract to extend it for another year. Currently on £130,000-per-week, Young’s deal was set to end at the conclusion of the current campaign – but now he looks set to stay for a while longer yet.
Young has been somewhat of a surprise package under Mourinho this term, becoming a regular member of the first team from the left-hand side of the Red Devils’ defence. Despite his age, he has kept up and, indeed, improved the quality of the Man Utd backline, offering consistent experience and quality.
Whether he will continue in the role long-term remains to be seen, but for now, the Englishman is doing a fantastic job.
Young is a fan favourite in the Transfer Tavern, and it’s easy to see why. He continues to impress whenever he plays, and as long as he continues to perform, he will continue to have a role under Mourinho.
Given his experience, it makes sense to keep him around, even if he slowly loses his place in the future.
