Italian club Lazio have joined Premier League duo Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for Sporting Lisbon’s highly-rated Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, according to The Mirror.
The English rivals, were said to be willing to wait until the summer to make their move for the forward but with Lazio said to be on the verge of making an offer they may be forced to make a move earlier than expected.
Van Wolfswinkel, 22, moved to Lisbon last summer after a successful spell with Eredivisie club FC Utrecht where he scored 15 goals in 26 league games last season. He has managed to keep up his excellent scoring record since he moved to Portugal with him hitting the back of the net 7 times in 11 league games.
With Lazio understood to be preparing a £13million bid for the Sporting star, the premiership giants could be forced to enter a bidding war for the highly-rated Dutchman. The Portuguese club who purchased Van Wolfswinkel for £7million are said to be holding out for a bid in the region of £20million or their Dutch front man.
Over the past 12 months Van Wolfswinkel has been involved in a hilarious viral feud with fellow Dutch forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar in which the pranksters have gone tit for tat with a number of practical jokes on each other.
