The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham Hotspur have contacted the player’s agent and are attempting to work out a deal for the player’s services. This news comes in contrast to many other reports recently which have all linked the player with a move to Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal.
Whilst being a prolific scorer at his former clubs, Alajuelense and Genk, he stepped it up a gear upon arriving at FC Twente, and has scored 33 goals in just 61 appearances, a ratio over one goal every other game. Having been rumoured to make the move to the Premier League for the last two years, his performances last season have finally done enough to warrant himself a move to one of the top English teams.
With FC Twente unlikely to accept anything less than the £14M release clause in Ruiz’s contract, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp may find that their relatively quiet transfer windows thus far pay off, with their boards willing to back the deal.
With Ruiz claiming that Spurs have actually been in negotiations with his agent, the most likely destination for the 26-year old seems to be White Hart Lane, but with Wenger being encouraged to spend and improve his squad, a move to Arsenal should not be ruled out.
