15-goal forward reportedly keen on move to Chelsea, but there’s a problem for the Blues

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still hoping for a few more signings before the end of the summer…

A few big names have already come to the club, but with Chelsea facing the added pressure of the Champions League next season, there is no doubting that a few extra bodies are needed.

One area that certainly needs improving is the Chelsea attack. Despite the capture of Alvaro Morata, Conte needs more options and, crucially, more variety up-front, with both Morata and Michy Batshuayi utilising a relatively similar style of play.

One option that Conte could look at this summer is Fernando Llorente of Swansea City, who – according to the Evening Standard – is keen on the prospect of a move to the Premier League champions. However, the Evening Standard reports that Swansea City are demanding a whopping £30 million for his signature, and at that price, the Blues are unlikely to take a punt on the Spaniard.

It leaves Chelsea in a tough spot as Llorente is the perfect target for Conte. Indeed, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern would love a player of his quality and experience, but a move for the Spaniard is beginning to look increasingly unlikely.

Landlord’s Verdict

Llorente is a player that ticks all of the boxes for Antonio Conte. At 32-years-old, he would likely be happy to have a bit-part role with the Blues, whilst the 15 goals he scored last season prove that he can still do it at the highest level.

However, considering that he will be third choice for Chelsea, £30 million is far too much, especially given the fact that he will likely rarely start for the Blues.

Still, it’s important that the position is filled, and so our landlord thinks that Chelsea may have little choice but to pay over the odds.
