The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern can’t wait for their title defence to get underway in the new season, and see their club back in the Champions League – but a few at the bar are keen to see one particular face still at the club.
There has been plenty of talk here in the Tavern over the future of Cesc Fabregas, but reports from The Metro claim that the Spaniard will still be in place next season.
The report centres around a story picked up in France surrounding the Blues’ move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, but one canny punter here in the bar has noticed a line towards the bottom sating that the former Arsenal man, who reportedly earns £156k-a-week at Stamford Bridge, will still be in place next season.
Our landlord reckons that, despite his lack of first team football compared to previous seasons, the World Cup winner’s contributions off the bench have convinced manager Antonio Conte to keep him on over Serbian Nemanja Matic, who has been linked to Manchester United this summer.
Chelsea fans, we want to hear from you! Are you glad that Fabregas will be staying on next season? Why do you think Matic is being allowed to leave over the Spaniard? Let us know in the comments below…
