£15M & A Part Ex On Berba For Bundesliga Legend, Anyone?

Reports in the Daily Star are suggesting that Sir Alex Ferguson is going to scrap his plans to lure Samir Nasri and Wesley Sneijder to Old Trafford and make a bid for Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger instead.

The paper says that Manchester United will offer £15Million for the German international, as well as offering Dimitar Berbatov in a part exchange deal.

The Bayern Munich player has been linked with the Premier League champions for several years now and there is a possibility that Ferguson might finally step up his attempts to sign the midfielder after Paul Scholes retired this summer.
Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to let Samir Nasri enter into negotiations with their Premier League rivals and Inter Milan’s extortionate valuation of Wesley Sneijder look to be forcing United to look elsewhere in their quest to sign a world class midfielder.

At 26-years-old, Schweinsteiger is coming into the prime of his career and the club would be willing to spend a large transfer fee on a player of his age.

The reports state that striker, Dimitar Berbatov will be used as a make-weight in the deal as the emergence of young Javier Hernandez has forced United’s record signing out of a starting berth in the Old Trafford line-up. The Bulgarian was left out of all the big games in the latter half of the season including the Champions League final squad, despite finishing the season as the Premier League’s top goal scorer.

There has been constant speculation surrounding Berbatov’s future since the conclusion of last season but it would be a huge mistake if the Manchester United boss was to ship him out this summer. The player still has a lot to give to the club and after some of the beautiful displays he has put in over his time at Old Trafford, it would be disrespectful to ship him out in such a manner.

Schweinsteiger would however, be a fantastic acquisition to the club and is one of the few players in world football who can replace the retired Paul Scholes.

A move for the German is likely to be cheaper than a bid for Sneijder and it seems as though the Manchester United boss is going to have to decide who of those two and Samir Nasri is the best option to fill that massive void left in the Manchester United midfield.
