Liverpool have a big problem between the sticks, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Jurgen Klopp to fix it. They’ve struggled with mediocrity in the role for many years, and so our landlord thinks that making a change this month could help re-define Liverpool’s season.
It’s always going to be tough to bring in a top talent mid-way through the season, but our landlord thinks that Jack Butland could be the perfect solution.
Currently playing for Stoke City, the Englishman has impressed since returning from injury, reclaiming his spot as their undisputed number one with little effort. Providing consistent shot stopping, aerial prowess and remaining comfortable with the ball at his feet, Butland ticks all of the boxes for the Potters.
His career has gone from strength to strength in recent years. Having spent several years on loan, he’s now arguably England’s best shot-stopper, and he’s in with a chance of featuring for his country in this year’s World Cup. His status as an England international will be particularly appealing to Liverpool, too, given that he qualifies as a homegrown talent. Given how difficult it can be to reach that quota in the modern era, as prices skyrocket, that will be invaluable.
He’s rated at £16.2 million by Transfer Markt, and whilst Stoke City would likely charge beyond his market value, he’d be worth every penny. He’s calm, he’s consistent – he’s everything that Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius are not. Liverpool are said to be scouting him, according to the Independent, and Klopp must ensure that his side follows through on the interest.
