£16.2m-rated Man Utd man reportedly considering his future, could look to seek exit

It has been a tough spell at Man Utd for Luke Shaw, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very disappointed. The Englishman moved to Manchester with so much hype around him, and it was certainly justified. He was one of Europe’s most talented young players whilst at Southampton, having cemented his place in their first team despite being a teenager. At Man Utd, though, it has all been downhill.

A mix of form, fitness and continued injury problems have plagued the Englishman’s time in Manchester, and under Jose Mourinho, things have only gotten worse. He has struggled to force his way into the Portuguese’s plans, and now it appears as though he is ready to throw the towel in. According to the Guardian, Shaw is now considering his future at Old Trafford, with his relationship with Jose Mourinho now at an all-time low.

Though Shaw, who is rated at £16.2 million by Transfer Markt, has been available for a while, Jose Mourinho has continually chosen to ignore the Englishman, and rightly or wrongly, he now finds himself out of his plans entirely. It’s certainly been a disappointing fall from grace for Shaw, and you can certainly understand both sides. With so many fitness issues, Mourinho is wise to not fully trust the Englishman yet, but at the same time, he’s clearly a very talented player and he does deserve another chance in the first team.

Anything could happen over the next few months, particularly if Mourinho changes his mind, but Shaw’s future is looking increasingly bleak.

Landlord’s Verdict

Shaw is a talented player, but it’s clear that injuries have really stunted his development. He’s certainly no better than he was a few years ago, and a big reason why Man Utd invested so much into him was because he had so much potential.

Whether he will be able to recover remains to be seen, but the next few months are going to be career-defining for the Englishman.
