Newcastle fans on Twitter can’t see their club signing any of Croatia’s stars

The transfer window has become a bit of a joke at St James Park over the Mike Ashley era. The Sports Direct owner always put profit over football and his priority list consistently has the Newcastle fans let down, with this summer being no different despite the Magpies calls for signings to try and improve on their 10th placed Premier League finish last season.

This summer does present itself as a strange one for the Geordies. Their Spanish gaffer, Rafa Benitez has claimed that he isn’t afraid to walk away if the club doesn’t match his ambition throughout the window even though he is keen to stay at the club for a long time. The club has made three signings since the opening of the window, however, two of the deals were a loan and a free whilst the other one, the signing of Martin Dubravka, cost just £4 million.

To put that into context, the club has also sold Mikel Merino for £10 million meaning their net spend this summer is £6 million profit. The fans have been toying with the idea of making a move for some of the Croatian stars who made it to the World Cup final yesterday. Some of the stars of the European side play for the best club sides in the world, but then with some lesser known stars, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see some of Zlatko Dalic’s side make switches to the Premier League.

You can see what our frustrated Geordies think of Ashley’s lack of spending here:

The Newcastle fans aren’t confident of signings and it’s clear to see why, after having suffered through ten years of Mike Ashley.
