£17M Reasons Levy Would Sell Van der Vaart To Utd

In the light of Paul Scholes’ impending retirement, Manchester United are on the lookout for a suitable reaplacement and have identified three key targets to bid for this Summer. Various news sources, including the Mail on Sunday, the Daily Mirror and have all provided possible targets to replace Scholes.

Tottenham’s Rafael van Der Vaart is the first player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly already approached Spurs with offers for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, but was apparently warned off by Harry Redknapp. The United boss now plans to test Tottenham’s resolve with a £25 million bid for the Dutch playmaker, who’s been one of the stars at White Hart Lane this season, scoring 10 goals in just 20 appearances. It’s happened before, with Berbatov and Carrick, so don’t be surpirsed if the Dutch maestro goes the same way.

Spurs are out of the Champions League and it has to be said that whilst Van der Vaart burned brightly to start off with, he now appears to be a man who the Premiership has caught up with.

He looked knackered against Real Madrid and now Spurs are all but one game away from a Champions League exit, a quick cash in might just make some sense. Especially in light of the fact the none of Tottenham’s current list of strikers will command anywhere near thier desired price tags as they have become a standing joke now as they do not score.

Of course, Ferguson may opt to bid for one of Van Der Vaart’s fellow countrymen, as he looks to strengthen his midfield options for next season. Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder has also been linked with a move to United. The 26 year old has recently signed a new deal with Inter which should keep him in Italy until 2015, but this doesn’t seem to have put Sir Alex off the playmaker. However, his £140,000 a week wage bill and the current £40 million price-tag on his head, might do the trick!

A cheaper alternative is Blackpool’s Charlie Adam, a decidedly more ‘down to earth’ target for United. 25 year old Adam has already been linked with a move to either Liverpool or Tottenham in the summer, but the young Scotsman was personally recommended to Sir Alex by his good friend Walter Smith. At £8 million, Adam would be a steal for the Red Devils, and they have emerged as favourites to sign the midfielder. Adam is excited by the prospect of playing Champions League football, and reportedly would be content to wait for his chance in the first team.

Quite which path Ferguson will take is anyone’s guess, but United fans will be looking forward to seeing which one he chooses, as the season draws to a close.
