Chelsea and Manchester City are set to battle it out for Sporting Lisbon’s 15-year old winger Bruma. Seeing as how he’s a Portuguese product of Sporting’s youth academy, Bruma has naturally been compared with Cristiano Ronaldo, regardless of the fact that those making such a comparison have never seen the lad play.
Despite his age, Bruma has already made appearances for Portugal Under 19s, scoring twice in three appearances for them. He’s highly-rated by Sporting, who have inserted a £17.6million release clause into his contract; meaning that rich kids City and Chelsea would be the most likely clubs.
At the same time, however, Manchester United have strong links with Sporting: links that have seen them bring in Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani in recent years. It’s a tactic that has paid off well for United; Ronaldo went on to become one of the world’s best players, whilst Nani has probably been their most important player this season. United aren’t exactly loaded these days, and even if the seemingly inevitable Rooney sale (I tried my best not to mention it, honest) goes through, the Glazers would hardly be willing to splash most of it on an unproven 15-year old.
Spurs could also throw a spanner into the works: they’ve been tracking Bruma for several months, and were linked with a move for the youngster over the summer. A move never materialised, however, after it transpired that Roman Pavlyuchenko would be staying at the Lane: with Robbie Keane currently out of favour, though, Redknapp may well reignite his interest.
