Newcastle United supporters have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern recently after seeing their side’s poor run of form continue with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Saturday, in what was their sixth Premier League loss in their last seven matches.
Rafa Benitez’s men made a solid start to life back in the top-flight by winning four of their opening nine games, yet things have since taken a turn for the worse and now the Magpies are lurking perilously close to the bottom three. And last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Leicester hasn’t helped their cause either with goals from Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray, as well as an own goal from Ayoze Perez, enough to seal the three points for Claude Puel’s side, thus inflicting a ninth Premier League defeat on the Magpies.
Thus, there have been many deflated and disappointed Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent weeks, many of whom are turning their attentions to Wednesday’s vital home clash with Sam Allardyce’s Everton, as the North East giants seek to finally get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Magpies fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports linking winger Rolando Aarons with a move to Championship outfit Leeds United.
The 22-year-old has only managed three senior appearances for Benitez’s side so far this season, totalling just 140 minutes of action, and as such he could be looking for a way out of St James’ Park in January in a bid for more regular football.
