Manchester City supporters are eagerly anticipating their side’s Premier League clash with Southampton this evening after seeing their side record an 18th straight victory by edging past Huddersfield Town 2-1 in their last outing, a result which maintained their healthy advantage at the summit.
Pep Guardiola’s men were tipped by many to go on and win the title this term, and they have certainly made their credentials clear by winning 12 of their opening 13 league matches, although their latest one was arguably their toughest yet. A Nicolas Otamendi own goal gave David Wagner’s Terriers a surprise lead at half time, yet that only seemed to spur the Citizens into action as second half strikes from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling, the latter somewhat fortunate, sealed a narrow win for the visitors, who in turn moved eight points clear of rivals Manchester United at the top.
Thus, there have been many delighted City supporters in the Tavern this week, many of whom are relishing their team’s home encounter with the Saints this evening, albeit are wary of what Mauricio Pellegrino’s side can do after they breezed past Everton 4-1 on Sunday.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for those Citizens fans lining up at the bar to get their teeth into, not least recent reports which suggest that European champions Real Madrid are eyeing up a January move for striker Aguero.
The Argentina international has been nothing short of a revelation since making the move to the Etihad Stadium back in 2011, as he has since scored a staggering 131 goals in 190 Premier League games, helping the club to two titles.
