The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty disappointed with this…
Last week it was reported that Chelsea defender Baba Rahman had suffered an injury to his knee whilst on AFCON duty, but the length to which the Ghanian would be out remained, at that point, uncertain.
However now, several days later, the true extent of his injury has been revealed – and it is not good news for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern.
As confirmed by Sky Sports, Rahman now looks set to be out for the rest of the season – after having surgery on a torn ACL which he damaged during the tournament.
This has come as a huge blow to the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, many of whom were hoping for the defender to impress whilst on loan in Germany. He was doing well in the Bundesliga before his injury, too, with the Ghanian featuring in 13 games so far this season.
Whilst not an immediate issue for Chelsea, it could cause several issues in the long-term. His unavailability will likely extend beyond the end of the season, and so there is a significant chance that the injury could, at the very least, disrupt his preparations during pre-season.
Best case scenario, he is able to rejoin the Chelsea squad whilst rehabbing – but worst case, he could be forced to miss out on any pre-season activities that the Blues embark on over the summer, which could hamper his chances at regaining his place in the first team under Antonio Conte.
This is just speculation, of course, but one thing is clear: Baba Rahman won’t be drawing the attention of Antonio Conte ahead of a Stamford Bridge return over the summer – and that can only be a bad thing for the long-term future of the defender.
