The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with Nathan Ake since he returned to Stamford Bridge…
Brought back to his parent club midway through the season, after impressing on loan at Bournemouth, Ake has featured sparingly for the Blues ever since – with Conte often hesitant to utilise him ahead of the likes of Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill.
This is, seemingly, something that is concerning the Dutchman, and in an interview with the Guardian, whilst admitting that the experience has been beneficial, he also noted that he is looking to hold talks with the Chelsea brass this summer in order to work out what his future holds. As per the Guardian, he said: “I just need to see what is going to happen with Michael [Emenalo, the technical director] or the manager. We have to talk and see what is best”.
Ake certainly seems like he wants to stay, but given how important game time is at his age, it is also vital that he is playing football regularly – something that he didn’t have in the second-half of the season.
Luckily for him, though, next season could bring with it a host of other opportunities for the Dutchman. The return of the Champions League will increase fixture congestion ten-fold for the Blues, and squad depth will be absolutely vital – opening the door for more game time for Ake.
