22-year-old Europa League star would be a wonderful addition to Arsenal’s weak side

Arsenal fans are enduring a tough start to the new year, with defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup ending the Gunners’ defence of the crown they worked so hard to secure in May.

Manager Arsene Wenger is under serious pressure to deliver in the coming weeks, and could be set for further blows if soon to be out-of-contract pair Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil attract offers this month to end their Arsenal spells early. Whatever happens, the duo will surely be gone in the summer, and the long-serving Frenchman must begin to source replacements now in order to be prepared for any eventualities. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are keen to see their boss begin work on his squad immediately, and suggested to our landlord over a game of pool that an attacking midfielder must be their priority in the coming weeks.

Wenger may be reluctant to pull out his chequebook however, and could once again pursue the policy of discovering a fledgeling European talent to add to his squad this month. If this is the route the manager takes, then our landlord can recommend nobody better than Atalanta man, Bryan Cristante. The Italian has proven a sensation in the Serie A side’s midfield this season, with his form in both Serie A and the Europa League helping Atalanta to progress this season. Fans may remember the player from his side’s 5-1 drubbing of Everton at Goodison Park earlier in the season, with the 22-year-old’s double the highlight of an excellent night for the Italian side.

Cristante already has nine goals to his name this semester from just twenty-two starts, and looks set to add to his single senior Italian cap in the near future. A man of the match performance in the 2-0 win at AC Milan before Christmas has been backed up by excellent displays in wins at high-fliers Napoli and Roma, and Cristante looks to be a future star of the European game.

Arsenal fans, should a move for Cristante be on the agenda this month? Let us know!
