The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were impressed with Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season…
The Swedish forward, who reportedly earns £220,000-per-week, moved to Old Trafford and was expected to produce the goods under Jose Mourinho, and he did just that. Bagging nearly 20 Premier League goals, there is no doubting that his first season in the Premier League was a success.
However, given his inclusion on Man Utd’s release list last week, the fans in the pub have widely expected that he will not be returning to Old Trafford following the end of his current deal.
However, according to Manchester Evening News, that may well not be the case. Manchester Evening News are reporting that Ibrahimovic will continue his rehab with the club over the next few months, and, significantly, should he return to fitness quickly – he could yet return to Old Trafford on a short-term basis next season.
This report was met with a gasp in the pub, though many believe that it could be a fantastic move by Mourinho. By not offering Ibrahimovic a new deal, the club are keeping their options open. They not quite closing the door on a return, but if his injury proves to be a difficult one to recover from, they can move on at no financial cost.
That being said, our landlord thinks that bringing Ibrahimovic back for another year could be great buisness. He is one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, and his experience could also be key.
