23-year-old could leave Chelsea this summer as club director reveals talks with the Blues

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to land a few new defenders this summer…

The Blues are desperately lacking depth at the back, with Victor Moses and Marcos Also – in particular – having very little competition within the first team.

Despite Chelsea’s need to sign a defender or two this summer, though, it appears as though one rarely utilised member of the Chelsea defence could be on his way out.

According to Sky Sports, Schalke sporting director has admitted an interest in forgotten defender Baba Rahmen, stating: “We are in talks with the player, his advisor and Chelsea”.

Rahman, of course, only played for Chelsea in the 2015/16 season, having failed to make a real impact. A year on loan at Schalke last season was interrupted by injury, but the German side are seemingly not ready to give up on the Ghanian.

Landlord’s Verdict

Rahman’s lack of fitness will likely go a long way to explaining why Chelsea could be ready to move him on once again, with the defender still recovering from the injury he suffered last term.

At the same time, though, he would fit in well at Stamford Bridge in Chelsea’s new-look 3-4-3 formation. With an emphasis on offensive wing-backs, of which Rahman certainly is, he would surely impress.

Still, he struggled during his first year in England, and so it’s unclear whether he is ready to be a first teamer at Chelsea.

Perhaps another year on loan could do him well, but Chelsea shouldn’t give up on him yet.
