23-year-old coy over prospect of being a Liverpool player next season, makes Klopp admission

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with Emre Can’s form this season…

The German has finally found his role under Jurgen Klopp, and despite recent poor performances from the Reds, the trio of Gigi Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Emre Can have combined well this term.

It’s a real concern, then, that the German’s current contract expires at the end of the season. Still yet to sign on for an extended term, it’s worrying that Liverpool could be about to lose him on a free.

The nerves of the fans in the Transfer Tavern are not going to be eased, then, by what the German has been saying this week. He’s been discussing his future, and he’s been far from committal.

According to the Daily Star, he said: “The Premier League is just a really cool league, the most interesting in the world, but you must always respect other big clubs and leagues. You never know what will happen”.

Interestingly, he also dropped a nugget of knowledge about Jurgen Klopp, revealing: “And I don’t know what Jurgen Klopp plans”.

The point on Klopp is important, as it seems to suggest that Klopp has not sat down for a one-on-one with Can and revealed what he wants to do with him long-term. If he confirmed that the midfielder was in his long-term plans as a crucial member of the team, then perhaps he would be more interested in committing his future.

Still, there’s more than enough time for this situation to get sorted. It is worrying for the club, though.

Landlord’s Verdict

Emre Can is, at present, a key member of the first team – but that could change over the coming weeks and months.

That could have a big impact on his future as potentially interested parties start getting in touch with him.

One thing is certain, though: Liverpool need to try and convince him to stay, as he has been sensational this term.
