According to the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, Jose Mourinho should be looking to sign a few defenders this summer…
Whilst Eric Bailly impressed in his debut season in England, beyond that, the Red Devils struggled to maintain consistency at the back, and so Mourinho will likely be looking to resolve that issue this summer.
Significantly, it seems as though the Portuguese could look to Real Madrid to solve the issue, according to Don Balon, with the publication reporting that the manager is set to do all he can to sign Raphael Varane this summer. Interestingly, the report also notes that Varane himself is said to be ‘willing’ to make the move, perhaps making this deal more likely than it appears at first.
Varane, of course, has spent much of his time in Madrid as somewhat of a rotational figure, though that could be set to change this summer with the impending departure of Pepe. In that sense, it may make it unlikely that he would want to move, but it appears as though the allure of Jose Mourinho could be too much to resist.
It was Mourinho, of course, that originally gave the Frenchman his big break when the now-Man Utd manager was in charge of Los Blancos.
Certainly, the Man Utd fans in the pub would love to see Varane join the club. The defender is one of Europe’s best, consistently delivering excellent performances for Real Madrid when selected.
