The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to forget their side’s game with Rochdale on Sunday, with many now instead looking ahead to the second-half of the season. The Lilywhites are in a precarious position at present, with a top-four finish far from secured, and so Mauricio Pochettino certainly has his work cut out.
However, one major takeaway from their game against Rochdale was the performance of Lucas Moura. The Brazilian made his full debut for the Lilywhites in the game, and he looked very good. Indeed, whilst Spurs may have had a mixed campaign so far, our landlord is backing Moura to provide the edge that they desperately need to finish the season well.
After all, he provides something that Spurs are desperately lacking at present – pace and technical brilliance. Whilst Pochettino’s team is filled to the brim with fantastic scorers and passers, they’re lacking a quick winger that can move past players. Whilst that’s not always what you need, it’s important to have options – and now Spurs definitely have that.
You only have to look at what he provided against Rochdale to learn that he’ll be a huge asset going forward. Granted, the League One outfit aren’t of the standard that he will be facing every week, but still – his performance can’t be ignored. He provided a real threat down the flanks and through the middle, and regardless of opposition – seeing him driving towards you is going to be a terrifying threat for any defender.
He also proved his goal threat by bagging Spurs’ first goal, and that’s another thing that he will no doubt be looking to provide as the season continues. Anyone that can reduce the reliance on Harry Kane will be useful to Pochettino, and so Moura will certainly have a significant role this season.
He still needs to grow into the team and into his new role, but Tottenham clearly need something extra in the second-half of the season, and it looks like Moura will be able to provide it.
