25-year-old defender reportedly features on Man Utd shortlist as Mourinho plots defensive rebuild

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern think that Jose Mourinho has his work cut out this summer…

The Red Devils impressed last season on the trophy front, but next year, Jose Mourinho’s targets are going to be far more difficult to achieve. With a Premier League title challenge expected, alongside the return of the Champions League, the Portuguese needs to make sure his squad is at full strength.

Investment is needed up and down the pitch, that much is clear, but according to Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solhekol, Man Utd’s priority at present appears to be improving their defensive options. Speaking on Twitter, Solhekol has revealed that the trio of Victor Lindelof, Michael Keane and Virgil van Dijk are the key targets for Man Utd in that role – with Mourinho clearly looking for stability at the back next season.

The Man Utd fans in the pub are certainly in agreement that new defenders are needed this summer, and many feel confident that all of these players would do a job.

Victor Lindelof has been in fine form for Benfica this year, becoming a crucial part of the Portuguese¬†outfit’s defence. Michael Keane, likewise, has been a breakout star for Burnley – and has left the Red Devils in the pub regretting the fact that their side sold him just a few years ago.

The signing of Virgil van Dijk could pose a bit more of a challenge, given that Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move as of late, but the Southampton defender would immediately come in and do a job for the Red Devils.

Whatever happens, it looks like Mourinho has big plans for the Red Devils this summer – and the fans in the pub cannot wait to see what he does.
