25-year-old unlikely to make summer move, Man Utd and Liverpool among those reportedly keen

The Man Utd and Liverpool fans were expecting a summer battle to land one of the Premier League’s most impressive players…

A number of sides in the Premier League have struggled defensively this season, with Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City amongst the worst offenders.

A mix of a lack of experience, quality and fitness has hampered the progress of each of these sides – and so it came as no surprise when fans of the trio of clubs were hoping for a move to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

After all, the ex-Celtic defender has been on fire this season in an otherwise disappointing Southampton side – with a big money move assumingly on the cards in the very near future.

However, it would appear as though a move to take van Dijk away from St Mary’s is unlikely – with the Sun, who are also noting that Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool are all genuinely interested, reporting that van Dijk is set to stay at Southampton this summer.

The Sun are noting that the Saints are increasingly confident than van Dijk will stay, with the defender reportedly ‘settled at the club’.

This has come as a huge blow to the Liverpool and Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern in particular, with many of them convinced that van Dijk could be the man to halt their injury woes.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the duo of Lovren and Matip has simply not been good enough – whilst Eric Bailly desperately needs a top quality central defensive partner at Man Utd.
