For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, Thibaut Courtois is one of their most important players. At 25-years-old, he’s a figure for the past, present and future, and so ensuring that he remains at Stamford Bridge long-term is a key hope of the fans in the pub. Fortunately, then, the latest report from the Evening Standard is likely to go down well with the fans in the pub.
According to the Evening Standard, both Chelsea and Thibaut Courtois are keen to agree fresh terms over a new deal at the club, and whilst an agreement has not yet been reached, it appears as though there is a keen enthusiasm from both parties to ensure that one is found at some point in the future.
Losing Courtois would be a massive blow to Chelsea’s long-term hopes, particularly given his relative youth. At 25-years-old, he’s able to remain in the side for the best part of a decade, and so that is something that the Blues will be keen to ensure. They were spoilt by the loyalty of Petr Cech, and so Antonio Conte will be hoping for more of the same from Courtois.
Until that deal is signed, though, there will be an air of concern amongst our resident Blues.
Courtois took over the mantle from Cech seamlessly, and given how impressive the veteran was during his long stint at Stamford Bridge, that is no easy feat.
He’s going from strength to strength under Antonio Conte, and given that he’s now one of Europe’s best goalkeepers, the Blues cannot afford to lose him.
