26-year-old striker was close to Manchester United move

Pato QPRAlexandre Pato is a player who many would surely think is coming to the end of his career, after being around for seemingly years and years.

However, after breaking onto the scene at a very young age, the 26-year old who is now back playing in Brazil and still has some of his best football ahead of him.

The Brazilian front man notched up 51 goals for AC Milan during his six-year spell in Italy, and many punters here in the Transfer Tavern still believe he could do a job in a top European League.

Well today, the news trickling into this boozy pub is that a big club from a top European League did infact come close to signing Pato this summer.

Talksport are reporting that Alexandre Pato himself has recently revealed that he had a very nice offer from Manchester United just hours before the summer transfer window slammed shut.

Our resident Manchester United fans admit they would have loved to have seen Pato at Old Trafford, and if he could have rekindled some of the form he showcased at AC Milan, it could have been a real coup for Van Gaal!
