27-year-old: This is what I want to achieve at Chelsea

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, Danny Drinkwater is a top signing…

The Englishman has now officially moved to Chelsea, and it’s a deal that really does make a lot of sense.

The Blues lack depth in the middle of the park, and given N’Golo Kante’s partnership with Drinkwater when they were both at Leicester City, a move for the Englishman was perfect.

He’ll have a lot of competition to get in the first team, but he’ll definitely have a role to play, and it appears as though he is up to the challenge.

Speaking to the official Chelsea website following his signing, Drinkwater said: “I am looking to carry on from the season before last when we won the Premier League there and I want to win more trophies…where better to do it than Chelsea.

He added: “I am at a good age now to kick on. I have gained a lot of experience in playing games and hopefully that will show”.

During the 2015-16 season, Drinkwater as one of the Premier League’s best players. His partnership with Kante is now the stuff of legend, and hopefully he’ll be able to refind that form this season.

At 27-years-old, he’s a player in the prime of his career – and Chelsea are going to be the benefactors of a player with huge quality and experience.

His arrival could propel Chelsea back to the top of the table, and as a result, he’ll be in with a chance of getting those trophies that he so desperately wants.

Landlord’s Verdict

Danny Drinkwater doesn’t carry the star power of a Morata or a Bakayoko – but his signing could be every bit as important.

He’ll likely play back-up to N’Golo Kante, and his formidable defensive work and offensive creation could work wonders for the Blues.

With so many competitions to fight for, there’s no doubting that he will get enough of an opportunity to impress.
