The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern had largely forgotten that Wojciech Szczesny was still on the books at The Emirates…
Having spent the last couple of years on loan, the arrival of Petr Cech has largely made the goalkeeper redundant, and so this tale always looked set to be concluded with a sale.
Juventus have been linked with a move over the last few weeks, but according to The Sun, a deal still remains some way off. As noted in The Sun, Arsenal are playing hardball over a move, demanding £20 million from any prospective buyers, whilst Szczesny himself doesn’t want to stay at the club this summer.
It doesn’t really make a lot of sense for Arsenal to hold on to the 27-year-old, simply because he is highly unlikely to be given much of a chance with Petr Cech now at The Emirates. Given his age, he needs to be starting every single week – and at Arsenal, that simply wouldn’t be possible.
That being said, the fans in the Transfer Tavern can certainly understand their side’s point of view. He has done very well over the last few years, and so a decent fee should be commanded – it will just come down to who is interested and how much they are willing to pay.
