The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that this saga will conclude sooner, rather than later…
Diego Costa’s Chelsea future has been up in the air for the last week, with the Spaniard reportedly keen on a big money switch to China.
The Spaniard returned to training earlier this week and the saga looked to be at an end, but it would appear as though the Chelsea fans in the Tavern are still some way from being able to celebrate Costa’s long-term Chelsea future.
According to the Sun, Diego Costa has a pretty sizeable demand for Chelsea if they want to keep hold of him long-term; with a wage boost to £300,000 per week reportedly wanted by the forward.
The Sun are reporting that Costa feels undervalued on his current wage packet, with the Spaniard inferring to Chelsea in no uncertain terms that they need to pay up or he will leave.
This is a genuinely difficult situation for Chelsea, with the Blues often ensuring total control over the wages on offer. Diego Costa has, seemingly, given them an ultimatum, though, and they may well need to weigh up if the Spaniard is worth the sizeable investment.
On the pitch, there is no doubting that Costa is one of Europe’s finest – with 14 league goals already scored this season – but the ball is firmly in Chelsea’s court with regards to whether they feel he is worth £300,00 per week.
With Diego Costa the only recognised striker at Chelsea that Antonio Conte seems to have faith in, it would appear as though Chelsea have little choice but to ensure his long-term future is in SW6.
Our landlord thinks that Chelsea would struggle to replace Costa, and so a big money offer is the only option for them.
