Diego Costa has proven to be a very divisive figure amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
A frequent goalscorer, Costa’s strikes have often been vital for the Blues, and most fans recognise that. However, uncertainty over his future in addition to his antics both on and off the field have led some fans to sour on him in recent months.
With that understood, it will come as no surprise to learn that a recent admission from the Spaniard has divided supporters even more. According to the BBC, Diego Costa has revealed that Antonio Conte doesn’t want him at Chelsea next season, stating: “I’m a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there…Conte said he did not count on me for next season”.
On one hand, it would be a shame for Chelsea to lose Costa, given how much he has contributed to the club, but on the flip side – Antonio Conte is clearly a manager that knows what he is doing. Indeed, the allegiances in the pub are firmly split between Costa and his manager.
There can be no denying that Costa’s form has suffered since the turn of the year, with the Spaniard struggling to keep up his goalscoring form in the latter half of the season.
Interestingly, the Blues have been linked with a move for Romelu Lukaku this summer, and our landlord thinks that any deal for the Belgian may be funded by the sale of Costa, given that it is unlikely that both players will be at Chelsea at the same time.
