The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for at least one more major signing before the start of the season…
The Blues have spent big so far this summer, but with their squad still looking perilously thin, Antonio Conte still has work to do.
Chelsea have seemingly been hesitant to overpay on players over the last few weeks, and that could hold Conte’s side back next season.
Roman Abramovich, though, is the man in control, and whilst he clearly has been holding back from spending massive sums this summer, there is reportedly one player that he would love to land. According to Don Balon, Abramovich has Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe ‘in his sights’ at present, with the Russian clearly a massive fan of the 18-year-old. No move is reportedly on the cards at present, but is noted that with Eden Hazard interesting Real Madrid, the Chelsea owner could look to move for the Frenchman if a move were to go through.
Eden Hazard is clearly a player that Chelsea won’t want to lose, but his departure would be made far easier to handle if Mbappe were to come the other way – no matter how unlikely that scenario is.
Still, Abramovich is a man that has so often got what he wants, and our landlord thinks that this could be no different.
Mbappe, who is rated at £29.75m by Transfer Markt, had a fine season last year – bagging 15 league goals along the way.
For most of Europe’s big clubs, Mbappe would be a dream signing. He has drawn the attention of football fans across Europe for his fine performances whilst at Monaco, and he looks destined for a big money move in the future.
That said, Monaco has proven to be a fantastic place for his development at present, and so a move does not look likely at the moment.
Either way, Chelsea will never sell Hazard without bringing in a player of a similar quality, and so if a sale does happen, you can expect the Blues to launch a mega move for a player like Kylian Mbappe as a result. Sure, the Frenchman’s club would likely demand a seismic fee, but the Blues would expect big money for Hazard too – so perhaps he would be affordable.
The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t holding out much hope, though.
