29-year-old not thought to be in Newcastle’s plans for next season – Report

Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted with how their team has performed over the last few months and will be urging the club to make additions in the summer.

The Magpies turned their form around during 2018, which had led the team up the Premier League table and clear from relegation and many in the bar believe it was the loan signings that Rafa Benitez made in the winter that had helped them immensely.

Martin Dubravka and Kenedy both joined on temporary deals from Sparta Prague and Chelsea respectively and impressed, with many wanting the players to remain at St. James’ Park permanently, however, the signing of Islam Slimani from Leicester City did not go as well as they would have hoped.

In fact, the Algeria international has ended his loan spell with the Toon Army a month early, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, after he was shown a red card and will not be able to feature for the rest of the campaign.

Benitez revealed the striker had apologised for his actions, however, it does not appear that Newcastle will be taking him on a permanent deal, as Slimani struggled to make any real impact in the north-east.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be disappointed things did not work out for a player that promised so much potential, however, a number of the punters will feel it is in the club’s best interests not to bring Slimani to St. James’ Park on a permanent deal this summer.
