According to reports in The Daily Mail Manchester United are considering a bid of around £2million for FC Copenhagen left back Bryan Oviedo.
The 22-year-old Costa Rican was watched by United scouts on Sunday as Danish champions FC Copenhagen beat HB Koge 5-0.
With Sir Alex Ferguson confirming Fabio da Silva is likely to be loaned out for next season, Benfica looking like his likely destination. Oviedo could be bought in as the understudy for the ever-present Patrice Evra. The Frenchman however has come under criticism from supporters at Old Trafford for some of his defensive displays this season, mistakes that could see Sir Alex Ferguson in the market to give some healthy competition for the role at left back.
Oviedo was part of the Costa Rican U-20 squad for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt where his outstanding performances caught the eye of many suitors in Europe. They finished an impressive fourth in the competition and shortly after this, Oviedo was snapped up by FC Copenhagen where he is contracted until 2013. He has made 13 appearances for FC Copenhagen this season and has also been capped 13 times for his country, most recently in February against Wales.
If the deal goes ahead it could be the beginning of a busy transfer window for United. Sir Alex is known to never rest on his laurels so a clear-out of some of his more established players could be on the horizon, even after what looks like another league title success beckons for his team this season.
