Everton added seven new players to their ranks during this summer's transfer window, as new boss Ronald Koeman began his overhaul of the Merseyside club.

The signing of Yannick Bolasie was the Toffees' marquee arrival, however Evertonian's were also pleased to see both Ashley Williams from Swansea and Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa sign their names on the dotted lines ahead of the new season.

Fulham keeper Marteen Stekelenburg, as well as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Chris Renshaw and Basalla Sambou -all from the lower tiers of English football - also arrived in what was a busy window for Ronald Koeman and his new club. The loan signing of West Ham's Enner Valencia capped off the summer's business.

The Toffees fans will be hoping their new men can live up to both the expectation set before them - as well as their hefty transfer fees - in order to improve on the disappointment that was last season.

If the opening four games are anything to go by, then they shall not be disappointed as all 4 of their major signings have had a terrific start to the season, as Everton sit 3rd in the table with 10 points from a possible 12.

Not all of Everton's signings over the years have quite lived up the hype, and our fans at the Tavern have compiled the most disappointing THREE.....

Paul Gascoigne

Paul Gascoigne

Undoubtedly one of England's most talented ever players, Everton fans would have been delighted at signing the enigmatic midfielder on a free transfer back in July of 2000.

It was however, a disappointing tenure for the Englishman at Goodison Park as due to his battles with his mental health and alcoholism he struggled for fitness and form.

While no fault of his own, Everton fans were left disappointed that Gazza couldn't re-find the kind of form of his Tottenham and Newcastle days.

Andy van der Meyde

Who? Exactly.

The once Ajax defender was signed from Inter Milan following two seasons in Serie A for a whopping £7.65 million in 2006.

If remembered for anything whilst at Goodison, it will be his off-the-pitch controversies including a suspension for breach of contract rather than his performances on the pitch. 20 appearances in a dismal 4 seasons and further controversies eventually lead to van der Meyde being released in 2009.

Royston Drenthe

The former Real Madrid man may have had the one the biggest falls from grace ever seen in footballing history.

A once first team regular at the Bernabeu became ousted within 3 seasons and eventually loaned to Everton during the 2011/12 season, but again the Dutchman failed to deliver.

A bright start to his career had fans exciting but Drenthe dwindled into the realms of invisibility by the end of the season and was subsequently returned to Madrid.

He was promptly sold on to Alania Vladikavkaz, before spells at Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Kayseri Erciyesspor and now UAE side Baniyas.
