Considering they sacked a manager part way through this season, Chelsea has had success winning the FA cup and reaching the Champions League final. Yet one player hasn’t shared in the clubs glory.
18-year-old Romelu Lukaku is upset by his 8 appearances this season and wants a loan deal to improve his stock.
As reported by the Sun, the Belgian international acknowledged both Villas-Boas and Di Matteo’s decision to go with experience over youth. Yet the player wants more playing time and has requested a loan for next season.
Chelsea may like the idea of sending their talented striker away, particularly within the Premier League, to help him get up to speed with the English game. That being said here are 3 destinations where Lukaku may be come August
The favourite: Stoke City – Stoke have been linked with a loan move for the striker in the past and would be a good option for both Lukaku and Chelsea. The Blues would send their man to one of the most physical sides in England, helping him to get accustomed to the physicality of the Barclays Premier League.
For Lukaku, a move to Stoke would give him the opportunity to play with Kenwyne Jones, Ricardo Fuller and Peter Crouch who combined have a wealth of experience. This seems a good fit for both striker and club should a loan deal be arranged in the summer.
Possibility: Bolton Wanderers – Owen Coyle’s side could potentially go down this weekend. Whilst most players would not be looking for a transfer down a division this move could suit both the Belgian and his bosses at Stamford Bridge. Bolton would again give Lukaku the chance to play in a physical team alongside the experienced Kevin Davies.
For the Wanderers the move may help to compensate for the typical outpour of players through the exit door should they be relegated; if they don’t he provides another threat up front.
For Chelsea the move is perfect as their man still gets experience and even better won’t be able to harm them in the top flight (that is IF Bolton go down, which I sincerely hope not). If they stay up the move could still help both sides and the player.
Smart Move: West Brom – Under Roy Hodgson, West Brom have had an excellent year this year and should finish around mid table. Yet times are changing at the Hawthorns, as their manager leaves for the England job and the club looks forward to another season. With their highest finish in club history, the Baggies may think (and rightly so) that they can push further on in both the league and cup next season. Lukaku could be just the right player to kick start this rise.
West Brom need a goal scorer having only netted on 53 occasions this season (one more than Man City and Man Utd have scored at home alone).
Lukaku would be given the role from the get go and Chelsea would have their man getting experience whilst (hopefully) not causing them too much grief. There are defensive needs to be addressed first at the Hawthorns but this would be a clever move for both player and club.
