Stoke City defender Glen Johnson is set to extend his stay at the Barclays Premier League club as manager Mark Hughes moved quickly to avoid losing his influential performer on a free transfer during the summer.
The ex-England international would have been out of contract at the end of the season and according to The Telegraph, West Ham United and Crystal Palace had been alerted towards Johnson’s situation.
The Stoke fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been raving about Johnson’s performances this season and some have even stated that he could earn himself another international call-up should his current form persist.
Johnson’s time at Stoke was set to come to an end after he failed to play an agreed amount of games that would have earned him an automatic extension, but nonetheless Hughes now seems to be showing his hand regarding a new deal, according to the landlord’s copy of The Telegraph.
Stoke City fans in the Tavern have rushed to get the champers in from the bar, with one supporter stating that Johnson is exactly the kind of player that the club needs if they are to progress in the Premier League.
