Whilst a number of players, including Craig Gordon, were linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the course of the month – nothing came to fruition. Antonio Conte will, instead, have to face the business end of the season with the same squad that started the campaign.
The majority of the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting the Blues to go back in for a number of their January targets at the end of the season, but it would appear as though one player could be off limits.
According to the Daily Mail, Celtic have opened contract talks with Gordon over the prospect of a new deal – with the club set to make him one of their highest earners.
This news has been divisive amongst the Chelsea fans in the Tavern, given that many were not pleased that Gordon, a 34-year-old goalkeeper, was being targeted by a club of Chelsea’s quality. Conversely, with the future of Asmir Begovic still uncertain, the Blues clearly need a new goalkeeper – and it would appear as though Antonio Conte is going to need to look elsewhere.
