£36m-rated forward on Mourinho’s shortlist as Man Utd begin to prepare for the future – report

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have a big impact in the second-half of the season. Though last season was a stellar one for the Swede, he has struggled to make an impact this term thus far, and that has surprised our resident Red Devils.

Whether he’s up to the challenge or not, one thing that cannot be denied is that he is in the twilight of his career, and so it will come as no surprise to learn that Man Utd are preparing a succession plan. According to Yahoo Sport, Man Utd are considering a number of options as they look to replace Ibrahimovic long-term, with Italian forward Andrea Belotti reportedly being considered.

Currently playing for Torino, Belotti exploded onto the scene last season with a stellar 26 goal return, offering explosive pace, fantastic shooting and brilliant technique. At just 24-years-old, the Italian’s future looks very bright indeed.

Yahoo Sport note that there is a belief that Ibrahimovic will not be at Old Trafford next season, and whilst Mourinho does have ready-made options at the club, the prospect of a player – like Belotti – coming in is a definite option. He won’t be cheap, though, with Transfer Markt rating him at a whopping £36 million.

It’s a move that would certainly go down amongst our resident Red Devils, with Belotti clearly one of Europe’s most talented forwards. It’s going to take a big name to replace Ibrahimovic, and Belotti would certainly be a good choice in that regard.

Landlord’s Verdict

Belotti is clearly very talented, and given his age, he’d be able to come in and compete with and play alongside Romelu Lukaku for the foreseeable future.

That said, Torino are likely to demand more than his market value, and so Mourinho must decide whether he is worth it, or whether, as Yahoo Sport note is an option, he should stick with someone like Marcus Rashford.

If the question is whether he’s good enough, though, Belotti clearly is.
