£36m-rated Man Utd target would be a more important signing than Paul Pogba – agreed?

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a few big changes at Old Trafford this summer. Though it has been a progressive season for the Red Devils, it’s clear that more improvement is needed.

After all, Man City are far and away the best team in England, and so Man Utd will be playing catchup this summer.

Fortunately, then, reports of a move for one of Europe’s brightest talents have gone down well amongst our resident Reds. According to the Daily Record earlier this week, Man Utd have made contact regarding a move for Samuel Umtiti – who is reportedly stalling on a new deal at Barcelona.

It’s fair to say that this move would send shockwaves throughout the Premier League, and our landlord has even suggested that it would be a bigger deal that that which brought Paul Pogba to Old Trafford.

After all, at this point, the Frenchman – who is rated at £36 million by Transfer Markt – is exactly what Man Utd need. Their squad is filled with talent and depth, but in defence, they have struggled. Victor Lindelof has been poor, whilst the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones both have uncertain long-term futures. As a result, a new central defender is a priority this term.

Man Utd would struggle to do better than Umiti, too. He’s a regular for Barcelona, having formed a key part of one of Europe’s most effective defences. Offering great passing, tackling, running and general defending, the Frenchman really has it all.

At 24-years-old, he’s an option for the present and the future, and in terms of finding solutions to issues at Old Trafford, Umtiti would be a perfect fit.

Paul Pogba’s signing brought a lot of attention to Old Trafford because it signified that the Red Devils were becoming a European force once again, as they were able to land one of the best young players in the world. Umtiti, though, would be an even more significant signing for the club – because he’s exactly what they need at this moment in time.
