The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have mixed opinions about Ross Barkley’s departure. Some of them have told us that they are sad to see a homegrown academy product leave the club without realising his full potential while others are happy to cash in.
But whatever the Everton fans think of Ross Barkley’s move to Chelsea, it was an inevitability for a while. The England international has finally departed Goodison Park after his move to Chelsea fell through in the summer.
And Barkley could be the first of a few who are set to leave Everton in this January transfer window as Sam Allardyce starts putting his own personal mark on this squad. Cenk Tosun has arrived at the club and things are starting to take shape under the former England boss.
With a number of players set for the exit door, Aaron Lennon should also be pushing for a move away. The time has come now for him to move away from Everton. Rated at £4.5m on Transfermarkt, Lennon could be a catch for other Premier League sides.
The diminutive winger is likely to have a number of potential suitors chasing him and some of these would be able to offer him more guaranteed playing time in the first team. This is something that the 30-year-old needs to be promised at this stage of his career.
Burnley could be a good destination for the former England international as he would still be aiming high in the Premier League but he has a clearer path to the first team. Other options could include the likes of Newcastle United or West Bromwich Albion.
But a future at Everton is looking unlikely so Aaron Lennon should definitely try to force a move away if he has admirers.
