To say David Bentley’s career at Tottenham has stalled comprehensively is a huge understatement. He signed from Blackburn for £15million in 2008 which at the time was a great signing for the Londoners.
He looked set to become David Beckham’s long-term replacement on the right side of the England midfield and also Aaron Lennon’s place at Spurs looked under-threat.
However, many Tottenham fans have since criticised David Bentley for his lacklustre displays and say he’s not the same player who set the premier league alight at Rovers and yes, they are probably right to do so.
Now clubs such as Liverpool, Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa are all looking to sign Bentley on a loan deal until the end of the season. If he regains his confidence and plays as well then his transfer value will more than likely increase, meaning Spurs can either cash-in on him and re-coup most of the money they paid for him or bring him back to the Lane.
Surely it’s a win-win for both Tottenham and Bentley and hopefully first-team football will re-vitalise the player and he can get his career back on track. Fulham looks like most likely destination for him as he has a strong relationship with Mark Hughes and what’s also good for Spurs is that Fulham are unlikely challengers to them this year as say Liverpool, Everton or Villa will be come the end of the season.
Do you believe this loan spell will benefit Tottenham or even David Bentley himself? Has he still got what it takes to improve the other sides in question? Surely he’s got to be worth taking on for one of these clubs hasn’t he? David Bentley on his game, whipping in crosses is a terrific player, he needs his confidence back. I believe Fulham is best for Tottenham, Bentley and Mark Hughes as well…….
