Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has added fuel to the speculation around him, suggesting he may be on the move from Barcelona in the summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City as the likely candidates for the Brazilian’s signature.
According to who you believe, Barcelona have already offered Alves to City as they struggle to tie him down to a contract at the Nou Camp. Alves has been less than pleased with the response he’s received from the Catalonians and told reporters, ‘I don’t feel like the club have been doing their utmost to renew my contract, but that’s just a feeling I have.’ This will be good news to Manchester City who were linked with the player before January, but with Chelsea aslo staging a clear-out over the summer, it’s likely the Citizens will have a fight on their hands for the right-back.
Alves isn’t the only big name player linked with a move away from La Liga this summer. In fact, Real Madrid are supposed to be considering the sale of midfielder Kaka, with Chelsea and Man City also being linked with the Brazilian! It will be interesting to see who ends up going where. Kaka was closely linked with a move to Chelsea earlier this week, but with Manchester City so close to signing Alves, they could pull a real coup and acquire Kaka before Abramovich has time to blow his nose!
It’s possible that either player will cost in the region of £40 million, but Barcelona are remaining tight-lipped. In fact, they’re confident that Alves will still be a Barcelona player at the start of next season. Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu told a radio station in Spain, that, ‘there are no deadlines for negotiations with Alves. I am very optimistic about the exstension and I think we will reach an agreement before the summer.’
So depending on who you believe, Alves is a) not leaving Barcelona b) leaving Barcelona….and coming to Chelsea c) leaving Barcelona….and coming to City or d) coming to Chelsea and bringing Kaka with him. Nothing is ever assured in football, so hold onto your butts! Where this story goes will be compelling stuff!
