£42.5m striker heaps woe on Conte after Lukaku embarrassment

The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still trying to put together exactly how rivals Manchester United managed to swoop in at the last minute and land a deal for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, when he looked all but on his way back to Stamford Bridge.

Having just about come to terms with the fact the mighty Belgian will be playing under former manager Jose Mourinho next season as opposed to Antonio Conte, there is more news to frustrate the Blues in the bar.

According to reports from Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol, last season’s top scorer Diego Costa was absent from training as the Premier League champions returned for pre-season ahead of their title defence.

Solhekol goes on to claim that, while the £42.5m-rated star wanted to stay at the club initially, Conte has had enough and there is no way back for the Spaniard.

The former Atletico Madrid striker, who could well be on the way back to his old club this summer regardless of their current transfer ban, has been outstanding for the west Londoners since joining the club, playing an integral role in their last two title wins.
