Real Madrid have won the race to sign Brazilian hot shot Neymar from Santos. According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid are on the verge of completing a £48 million deal with Brazilian club Santos for the signature of one of the world’s brightest prospects. The deal will make the teenage prodigy one of their highest-paid players.
Neymar had rejected the chance to play at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2010 and his performances and style of play for Santos has formed comparisons to football legends Pele and Maradona. At 19 years of age he has rose to prominence and has seen Europe’s elite clubs fight for his signature. He has attracted interest from clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea, AC Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Internazionale.
It has been reported that Madrid will pay Santos £20 million up front and pay the rest of the fee in installments. The Spanish heavyweights are also ready to offer Neymar a lucrative salary which will make him the third-highest player in a squad stacked with world class talent in all areas, behind Portuguese and Brazilian maestro’s Ronaldo and Kaka.
The contract will also have its fair share of add-on bonuses. This will include a hefty performance-related bonus and a reported £2 million per season just on image rights.
Brazilian legend and ex-Real Madrid player Ronaldo believes Neymar should join Real Madrid to further his career.
“We will see his evolution from the moment he moves to Europe, which will be the most important step in his career,” he told Globo.
“He has done everything he can here in Brazil with his talent. I think it would be a shame to limit himself to Brazil only.”
